CUSHIONS... of doom
Ok, emo ranty the day before. Yesterday I was learning to sew straight lines. Yay. Cept that machine... is and an evil being hungering to stab my stubby fingers. ; __ ; I kinda figured out that I'm an adrenaline junkie... if I could afford it, and well, let me tell you, nothing gives you a rush like an antique Pfaff. The build up of electricity, the ZWOOAW as it powers it's innards up. The feeling when you push on the pedal, a little harder, a little harder and BAM it nearly chews off your finger. Ah yes, nothing soothes the nerves like hearing me sew, screaming and hysterically giggling through a self inflicted tourture. And yes, all my fingers are still intact.. BOO YA!

[Link] | I'm starting to realize that when I don't keep myself super busy I tend to go into a depressive pitiful, no body loves me phase. Guess, I'll reclaim this blog, since none of the people who super piss me off read this. So, I'm told that when pissed, we should write about HAPPY things. Okay. Me: blah blah blah I've got issues blah blah blah Vince : well, I can't fix you, but I can love you. Yes, my boyfriend can be the densest person in the world, but he's so gosh darn sweet sometimes. Ugh. Smitten anyone?

Humans are cowards in the face of happiness.
I went to church hoping to find a listening ear. I walked home alone partway in the snow. My grandma passed away. But I'm not sad. I walk and it's bitterly cold that I can feel the bite of the wind in go up through the small of my back. My face is cold, freezing off almost but suddenly all of my face went numb. I didn't feel the cold anymore. Was it cos I had a stroke and lost all feeling in my face? My eyes were already swollen and groaned under the strain of having to produce more saltiness. Apparently my lips had swollen up and that caused me to believe my face went numb: they had heated up and there was nothing wrong with me. Well, cept emotionally.

It's raining indoors. Oo; I'm sitting on some futons and placed my lappie on the bed. I'm indoors and it's raining inside. So either some cold small bug is slitting their little legs on my skin, or my air conditioner is pretending to be a rain cloud. Oo;

Update Maybe I romantisize my last few days in Japan... or maybe it really is that great. Either way I often find myself teary eyed during the day or nights in the past week or so.
I also found that I can no longer make coherent sentences anymore.
So, just incase you don't know, I've been living in Japan doing the JET Programme where I teach high school kids in the middle of nowhere. It's great. You get paid like 2600$/ month not including transportation fees and you basicly play all day... or maybe that's just me hehe. =P But now my 1 yr contract is over and I'm heading back home to persue a master's of Education and / or something in Counselling Psych. I really regret not staying 1 year longer but at least I got on the program.
I'll be in Hong Kong from July 28 to Aug 6 I'll be in San Fran from Aug 6 to Aug 18
Sooo look me up if you are in town!

How do you go back? ; Nodame stuff... Who would have guessed preparing for going back home would be more dreadful than going to a foreign country?
On the other hand, I just finished Nodame Cantabile 1-11. It reminds me a lot of my students, who are lazy, unmotivated, and generally hopeless in school. They more than make up for it in their musical / artistic talents. I really love my kids, they have a way of lighting up your day. I also wanted to point out that Strausseman really got it right when he said Chiaki sempai failed when he made an orchestra member cry.
I used to be in a church choir where there were 40 members. Later, the conductor was actually a piano teacher who got pregnant and had someone else take over. Eventually over the course of 1 year it dwindled to 5 members because the conductor was not good at interpersonal skills. I recall thinking that by not dropping out I could support her until everyone came back. One day, she came back from a conductor's conference stoked that she was technically more skilled than novice conductors because the teacher put her in the advance class and realized she had no probs conducting. I told her that day that I wanted to support her till the other choir members returned, but that she had chased them away with her attitude even though she was technically skilled. She was really upset/offended even though I worded as best as I could. Finally, it was disbanded. Now we don't have a choir, what a sad little story eh?

Dear Jocy and Shaina and Haiku
Now for a Haiku! Traditionally 5 syllables then 7 then 5. Apparently Matsuo Basho is the Haiku saint who traveled from edo .. or Tokyo to Fukushima and very possibly past my little YABUKI!!
The old pond A frog jumps in The sound of water By M( translation of the Japanese Haiku so the syllables are off)
WHY Rain makes me blue Pedalling hard and wet too Now I smell like poo **
The trouble with dry rice paddies and the fact that they make up nearly the entire surface area of your little town.. is fertilization plus wind. Not only does it stink, and you try your damn best to pedal past as fast as your burning thighs and bursting lungs can endure, but I SUSPECT the wind picks up the particles of stink, carries it into the clouds only to rain down on you as you bike.

Kyudo and Mosquitoe clouds Last week I started up kyudo, the art of archery, where you follow super strict rules and do your best to act very very VERY cool. My supervisor gave me instructions to the place and at the time there was a particularly fast mosquito flying around the room. Nemoto sensei killed it and told me that the black and white stripped mosquitoes are the deadliest ones- you itch longer, harder and swell more than the other types. Keep this in mind. Ok, so I commute and walk to Buddokan, the place where I practice Kyudo. It's very strict.Imagine going into a gym, where 2/3rds of the roof has been ripped off, and you are in the middle of a forested area. You shoot under a covered area and you stand on old wooden floors smoothed by the feet of many shuffling, posing, emotionless students. Your eyes must face 2m or 4m beyond your toes, yet your chin must not be tucked down. You must slide your feet and not lift them up, turn them a certain way, take X number of steps etc etc. Now, try not to focus on the hazy cloud of mosquitoes as they circle you. When the teacher turns their head, I punch, flail my arms, and even kick/step mosquitoes the hell away from me. If there was a 10 cm barrier around my body, there would be at least 9 mosquitoes trapped in the barrier. It was TORTURE trying to pay attention and act calm and cool when there is an ARMY of mosquitoes buzzing around you. I looked at one that I kick stepped and.. they were black and white.. but like 20% LARGER than the one killed in the office.. Their stingers were nearly 1 cm long! Guess it's because I'm in the forest area I suppose.

My Hong Kong trip and 3 lovestories There was a lot of pain when I came back, the burden of having so many people in the hospital, ironically the same hospital my granny was in...and not just strangers but relatives. As for my granny, we could only go in two by two from 6-8pm because of hospital restrictions from the Avian flu scares and another deadly flu going on.

A Lonely Christmas, and Dying in Your Underwear tied to a half made scarf Dec 25 I mean what beats dying in your underwear tied to your boyfriend's half made scarf? After being breifly scared, I realized it was God's way of saying, " Suck it up princess.. it could be worse."

Sept 22: Unaware in my Underware
I wake up in my underwear, tired, and not really expecting to go to Iwaki, or Aizu for a 70’s themed party, or a Samurai festival because I’d have no place to crash. Joyce and most other Iwaki ALTs have been invited back to their host families and wouldn’t be in town to house me. Not seeing Tammy was another dampener that made me want to stay in bed and not go anywhere. ( Recall that I was feeling a bit sad because the senior high school ALTs don’t have the funding to participate in the Aizu homestay. ) Well guess what? I went. I went to the beach; with Betty and Hiroshi…actually let’s back up. I was LATE in meeting Hiroshi at the station because I couldn’t find my sunglasses or wallet. ( In Japland, we’re supposed to carry our Gaijin cards or foreigner ID cards around… but of course that was in my wallet.)Yes, I had left them both at school… but luckily I kept a small stash of cash at home, so off I went armed with a few bucks stowed away in my passport. Rich Baker came downstairs dressed like a chic, with a matching yellow handkerchief around his elegant neck and together, Hiroshi clad in skin tight tie dye pink shirt, and Rich biked to the 70’s themed party. I’m not sure what’s more amusing, them in motorcycles or cycling. They came back from the party drunk and wet from the rain, showered, tried on my girly top and proceeded to play Shithead ( a card game) and Piyo Piyo till 3 am. ** Note to self, never encourage a Japanese guy to wear my clothes, because they can always fit and most likely look better in it than I do.

Waterboyz So, I was feeling a bit gloomy having spent the worst birthday of my life, alone, trapped in a paper house, full of bugs and humid heat. I was also feeling jealous of the Junior High JETS who got to go to Aizu for a short homestay/ language program. The Senior High teachers, such as myself do not get to go because we are hired by the prefecture/ken/ province/state.. and we don't have the funding to go. It was hard swallowing my luck as I later read about the loads of fun they had, the mountains of gifts and the shower of hospitality that the host family showed to some of my friends. I was happy for them, yes, but I wish I could go to. It's a long weekend this week, and there's a Samurai festival in Aizu, supposedly the 3rd largest in all of Japan. Tammy and I wanted to meet up and do something, but as it turns out the homestay situation came back to haunt me. Our initial plans were to go to Iwaki Beach ( where a bunch of Jr. High JETs were staying) crash at their place and head off to Aizu for the Samurai Festival on Sunday. Unfortunately, the Jr. High JETs were all invited BACK to Aizu by their loving homestay families. Meaning Tammy and I would have no place to stay. Boo Hoo cry me a river right?
I suppose God's got some strange way of cheering me up because as I was whining to Vince, he urged me to pray. Immediately afterwards, my supervisor gave me a tub of icecream OO; Then he left for a teachers meeting. On the PA I heard something like " Shinkro sportsu " ... I immediately thought Syncro ...swimming??? Waterboyz??? I went to the pool to take a look and there stood 32 boys, with pom poms, dancing to the music, and well.. the whole shebang. Seriously it was the WIERDEST thing I've wandered into and I've seen two boys dry hump each other while the one behind tucked in the humpee's shirt in all the while.
To which I said, " Tabun, schoshi gay" .. ( probably a little gay )
I took pictures and a short movie clip on my phone. The best part of the routine was them playing the Pirates of the Cari. song and them using cones to shoot water about 2 m into the air while the two glistening platoons converged in the middle of the pool. Very cool.

Broiling Zombie Centipedes for an Army of Ants
Sept 9 I go back home to find about 7 dead drones ( male winged ants) in my shower/bath room and a marching army of ants. They were actually cleaning the dead bodies and carrying them somewhere so I was content in just watching. However, I felt the need to reach out and clean my bathroom. So I went to turn the hot water heater up to the highest temperature possible, hoping to give the poor ants a hot shower/ quick death. So now I'm spraying them all and suddenly I notice a big centipede drop from the tap. It's like in the movies, where some guy's shooting another guy so many times that although the victim is dead, he's still writhing from the multiple machine gun shots. The centipede writhed for a good 3 seconds before it looked dead. This was the last straw. Never mind the rotting plugged sink, the two daddy long legs spiders, the army of ants marching around my house, the mouldy hut, the fact that it's smaller, older, and more expensive and placed in the middle of nowhere...this monster was the last straw. I really didn't know how to deal with it. Throw it in the burnables bag? or the bag for plastics? Wash it down the drain..or will it plug it up or even go DOWN? Shall I call my supervisor and ask him/tell him to find me another place to live? Thankfully I showered that day, so I didn't have to shower with all the dead drones, ants and centipede in my washroom. I'm not sure if I said a prayer to God, or just cursed at my luck...but this was going to change... Sept 10 I go to check the dead centipede. The thing was still alive. It had moved an inch! WTH!!!! I hit it with water that must have been at least 70 C, if not higher, for a good 30 seconds. It must have been some incredible creature.. like a zombie or something. =___= On closer inspection, it was actually dead, but the ants where taking it away. I was amazed. I tried to get rid of the ants, who led to my finding the centipede, that led to my cooking it, and now my little brown army of ants, were taking it away for thanksgiving dinner. When I came home, it was gone, no trace of it's disturbance was left. Shocking no? Here's a picture of one: http://living.in-japan.jp/2007/04/tale_of_gejigeji.html

Confessions: Sep 7-10
5Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.[a] 7You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Col 3: 5-8
